Sun Set Favorites

       The sun is such a rare sight this time of year--I try to capture it in as many pictures as possible.  So I can enjoy the sight of it, all winter long.   I believe the best sun rise I have ever witnessed was several years ago when we still lived in Arizona.  Land of the sweating sun.  After finding out that my wife had never seen the Grand Canyon, we ditched the kiddos with Nana, and took off in the middle of the night.  I had a camper topper on the back of my pick-up, and we spent a very chilly night cuddled up to each other.  Way to early in the morning, we joined the masses- and took a short walk.  Witnessing the sun rise over this already beautiful place was beyond amazing.   I can not describe it in words or pictures.  I took some pictures, but they do not even start to give justice or credit to the sights we witnessed.   

      Because I do not function well in the morning, before many cups of coffee, most of my pictures are of sun sets!

       Today I wish to share some of my favorites.   Mostly from near the bay.  Because on a clear evening the views beat any show on television for sure!   The first few I would like to share --are not from Bellingham----for shame--I know!  But I find them very kool.   They were shot in my hometown of Sheridan, Wyoming.  For the many of you that have no clue were Wyoming is, it is the large, empty, snow-filled, square---in more ways than one, state directly below Montana.   Every one knows were Montana is!   Anyways, I recently spent some time there --- with my family.

Very soon after, it started to pour down rain.

It almost looks like a painting to me.

Quick Week In Review

Things have been extra hectic at our house.

And I am still having trouble believing that June even started, not to mention it is now almost over!

School ends on the 22nd, and the end of the year activities are crammed in, especially with three kids.   With summer just around the corner, and the added week of school daze because of "snow" during the winter, the kids have already checked out.  And the teachers are pretty much there also!  I went along with our youngest and most of the Larabee Elementary school Friday on a field trip to Fairhaven Park.   Three hours of running around the park shows the teachers have also checked out for the summer!  The worse part of the trip, was when they decided to attempt to sit all of the kids down, after hours of running around, and have them participate in a group sing a long.  Wasn't happening--is the cliff notes!

He also was in his first play at school!  As the lazy dog.  Very kool!

Above I put snow in quotes because compared to measuring snow by feet in Wyoming, were I grew up, the few inches of snow they saw here last winter was nothing.  I have talked about this before, but in comparison-just last month the Rockie Mountains saw 5 feet of snow in one day.  In that last big storm the west always gets, before the two months of summer.  After that joy, they go directly back to snow.

Among other things---summer time offers some great sunset pictures over the bay!

This week the sprinklers start up at Fairhaven Park.  And the movies on the Village Green in Fairhaven.

 And summer officially starts!  The 20th marks the summer solstice --the longest day of the year.

 Also the only day of the year that you can balance eggs on there ends.   Try it!  I don't fully understand why it works, but it does.  Something about the gravitational angle and positions of the Earth --sun--and moon.

Call your daddy!

Tell him to buy eggs and try the above on the 20th AND in case you forgot to call him yesterday.

It was Fathers day---you are excused if you were hatched from an egg!

    My dad is overly great!   If for no other reason , because he still puts up with me!   He has also been married to my mother for 40 years!   A feat in this day and age.  And I love them both to no end! 

   Now on to some other things---I have not had time to blog about lately!   

Recently our terrific daughter turned 11

  Our oldest son--who is also about read to have a birthday.  Why do they want presents every year??   He received his second GRR award at school.  For going above and beyond the expected.  
He also just had a reading for some poetry he just wrote at school, but my schedule did not allow me to make that.  

My long time buddy "Professor Getty" blew through town for a few daze and we hung out in the woods.   More on that in an upcoming exploring blog.  

      And than on Friday we made the long trek across the state for a family reunion and camping trip.  

Usually I make a high speed U-Turn in the road if I see this sign ahead *although you can't beat the towns slogan. BUT it was an  awesome weekend in Greys Harbor!!

I take pride in what I write.  

I also enjoy how easy it is to contact me.  Both through my blogs or my page on Facebook.

Sadly few of my readers ever seem to have comments or feedback.

Many times I test this by adding topics or thoughts that might start a conversation 

or anger others.   Kind of like a "mini-mini rant"  My next one will be about the coal trains proposed to run through Bellingham.  Here are a few local hot topics and my thoughts on them:

  I can't wait to head to the reservations and buy some good fireworks! While they are still legal. How un-patriotic are all of those fools trying to ban personal fireworks? Read up about July 4th---and than tell me I can't shoot off fireworks! If I am un-safe--that is MY problem, and you can than refer to me as Stubby!

      One last "mini vent" for now----- With all of the recent violence in Seattle---guns are going to be harder to get. Don't protect us from guns---protect us from idiots! Everyone in Wyoming has 12 guns---mostly to protect themselves from the government and to hunt & protect there livestock. They do not go around randomly shooting people because they have learned gun control and The right to bear arms.

In closing---I have posted this picture many times before-- but had always thought it was photo shopped.   While we were traveling through Washington over the weekend on the Air Force base, I saw this actual sign.   I am sure you are not as impressed

I am very from Wyoming and very easily amused.

Down By The Bay

   Especially after spending so much time in a land locked state, *Wyoming, with only a lake or two around me for sources of seeing water, I find myself down by the water all the time while on my exploring trips now.  Or while walking the family dog.  I have several past posts about roaming near the bay--and some of these pictures are from past trips, but I like them.  With no vehicle at the moment, my trips so far are mostly based around Fairhaven.  In minutes I can be down by the water.  Enjoying the views and seeing if the tide washed anything overly kool.  With a bus pass and a drivers license, my trips will venture further and bigger I am sure.

   As soon as we get near the water Max feels an urge to jump in.  I am sure even with the fur, the water can not be close to warm.  And often wander how far out he would wander, if I let go of his leash.  But whatever floats his boat.  

      It is a quick walk from the active town square of Fairhaven, down past the train depot, to the bay.   Or take a quick right on the trail behind Eclipse Books and head toward Boulevard Park.  This also leads to one of my favorite spots The Woods in Boulevard park.   I might have mentioned it before.  The location is multi leveled and has a fireplace.  The coffee joint also shares some stunning views around sunset time, that would put any TV to shame!   The narrow trail raises you above a little bit, for some great views of the bay.  Including were the cruise ships dock and a Coast Guard docking area.  The trail open into the roadway.    And you can soon spot this sign just before some old warehouses.  Both also make for some great pictures.

Below but before the water is the railroad tracks.  It is a poor place to hang out, if you ask any train conductor, but can also lead to some great adventures.   If you follow the tracks far to the left you reach Teddy Bear Cove and beyond.  I have talked about this before, but again, please note:  This cove is a very popular place for nude sun bathers.  Mostly older males it is popular for.  So you might want to detour well around the cove.  Or buy bleach to get the images out of your eyes.  The rail road tracks are defiantly not a place to play chicken with the trains.  Although it makes for a great country song.

Just past the tracks, you can explore the tide pools and such.

Find a long lost treasure the tide just brought in.  Play in the water.  Look for crabs.  Or look for shelters.   I have noticed these shelters all over Bellingham.  This one was by the water and had a beer bottle for a flag.  *Although this is sadly not visible in my picture.

The boardwalk is beautiful in itself.  And takes you all the way into Bellingham and Boulevard Park.  This is under the boardwalk.

    I have been away from the area for almost a year now, but this fine sculpture was new to me.  Keeping watch and forever dancing over the bay. 

A most enjoyable journey ventures down the wooden boardwalk.  And it is amazing how peaceful & calming all that water really is.  

 Grab some coffee and rest or warm up a bit inside.  Or continue your stroll down the water line.  

Venture past the railroad tracks and you eventually end up in the heart of Bellingham.  Or follow one of the many trails up & above the beautiful bay.

I hope you enjoy some of these pictures even half as much as I enjoyed taking them or my daze out and about.   Plus it was actually sunny most of the time I was roaming.  And who says I wouldn't make a great tour guide?    Please check out my other blog sight----- 260+ posts to roam through!
