Lake Padden ---Winter 2012

A week into the new year, and I am just now making my first post of the new year.  I hope all of my readers had an overly wonderful Christmas and have at least managed to keep one of your New Years resolutions!!   I have tons of posts, ideas, and improvements for this and my Facebook page---please bear with me ;)   Please check it out if you have Facebook: Wyoming Jack/Bobble Head's Blogs Exploring Bellingham & Whatcom county
First I wish to share this local picture---- It is down by Boulevard Park and actually goes with last weeks blog post.  But I forgot to add it to the blog.  It started out as a picture I was going to delete, and than I blew the picture up, and well, wow if I do say so myself.   This was shot right before the coffee shop.

The following is another example --- shot in the same park, near the wooden board walks....

But today we talk about wonderful Lake Padden.
And by we, I mean I!

I have posted about the area before--- but about all the summer activities.
On Christmas Eve, I some how had the day off work, and ventured to the lake, camera in hand.
I actually had no destination when leaving the house, but was truly coffee fueled!
Living in Fairhaven -I was not previously aware how close the lake really was to our house.   It is literally -right down the road.
A week later I returned with our dog, Max and our two oldest kiddos.

This mirror image almost can not be beat.

Although Bellingham has seen snow all around the town, we still have yet to see the white stuff here.
Last week the kiddos and I were going to venture up Mt Baker to actually see/play in the snow, but it was too cold.   More on that--after it actually happens.

No snow, but a light dusting of frost could be found.

This area offers all kinds of recreation-- year round.

I love trying to capture images and ripples in the water

The clouds on this day were again amazing.
They have been very neat lately--- blowing in off the mountains and the bay.
Perhaps it has always been this way
I just notice them more now.

We parked just past the horse trailer parking and took off on some of the many trails around the lake.  Instantly heading to the right, and away from the tennis courts.

This lake side bench offers a great view as well as a place to rest and think.

On this day it was also a spot for tribute and reflection on the New Year.

Through the gorge trail, the water trickles ever down wards heading to one of my favorite spots---the bay.

We had time for some off trail exploring.    You almost can not make out the kids, because they are wearing camouflage coats.

This up-rooted tree could make a great dry spot.
Not that it ever rains in Washington!

Huge old trees all around the trails make great sights.
At least in my eyes.

This dew covered leaf appears to be hanging on for dear life.

Pump house.

Of course this is just a small portion of all of the exploring just in this small area of Whatcom.

Next post finds us once again down by the bay.
Watching the sun set.

I hope you enjoyed.
In an attempt to gain many more local readers---please pass on the links to this page.

So many trails---so little time.

And as Always

**Happy Trails!!**

Sun Set Favorites

The sun is such a rare sight this time of year--I try to capture it in as many pictures as possible.  So I can enjoy the sight of it, all winter long.   I believe the best sun rise I have ever witnessed was several years ago when we still lived in Arizona.  Land of the sweating sun.  After finding out that my wife had never seen the Grand Canyon, we ditched the kiddos with Nana, and took off in the middle of the night.  I had a camper topper on the back of my pick-up, and we spent a very chilly night cuddled up to each other.  Way to early in the morning, we joined the masses- and took a short walk.  Witnessing the sun rise over this already beautiful place was beyond amazing.   I can not describe it in words or pictures.  I took some pictures, but they do not even start to give justice or credit to the sights we witnessed.

Because I do not function well in the morning, before many cups of coffee, most of my pictures are of sun sets!
Today I wish to share some of my favorites.   Mostly from near the bay.  Because on a clear evening the views beat any show on television for sure!   The first few I would like to share --are not from Bellingham----for shame--I know!  But I find them very kool.   They were shot in my hometown of Sheridan, Wyoming.  For the many of you that have no clue were Wyoming is, it is the large, empty, snow-filled, square---in more ways than one, state directly below Montana.   Every one knows were Montana is!   Anyways, I recently spent some time there --- with my family.

This is actually in the town cemetery.

I was roaming around town -- taking pictures-
and got this great shot.
Very soon after, it started to pour down rain.

This one is over some random persons roof.
It almost looks like a painting to me.

I am thinking about posting the exploring blogs I posted on my other sight, while living in Wyoming, on this sight.   I try to deal with the ever beautiful Bellingham area, but this sight is also all about exploring.    Please let me know your thoughts on this!    Easily leave comments or check out both of my blog sights on my Facebook page.....

And now back to Bellingham!

Blaine, Washington

Down by the board walk is the place to be --come sun set!

Plus there is a walk up coffee shop near-by.

These were shot on the 4th of July
while waiting for the fireworks to start......

Roaming around the Fairhaven Terminal

Marine Park

I love this tree!
I have so many pictures of this tree--now I just need a fall picture and a snow picture.

Another Week Of Exploring Bellingham!

In the next few days I hope to get some new fall pictures around the area.  I have shared some of my favorites in recent posts past.  But have a few more areas to explore before the wind claims all of the wonderful colors.   I have heard the Mount Baker area is extra beautiful right now.  I of course will have a full post about our family fun for Halloween.  I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween!   I would add a dry night to my wishes, but this is Washington, so good luck with that.  Another post coming very soon will be full of local web sights that I use all of the time to learn about all the events happening in our area.  I have many new concepts and posts in the works!

My next post will show case some of my favorite sunset pictures.  Mostly dealing with the bay.
All personal shots of mine.

I am thinking about selling some of my better shots in greeting card form, locally.
To view more of my pictures --and express interest in this idea--please visit my Facebook page

Today's post is all about exploring in the last week or so.  Events and trips that are note worthy or have offered some great pictures, but not worthy of an entire blog post of there own.   I hope you enjoy!  Last week we ventured down by the bay -a favorite place to explore for us all.  Our youngest ended up getting covered in mud and than getting hurt, so it turned into a short trip.  Luckily mom was home to offer a healing band-aid and a kiss or two!   I managed to snap some great shots before we ventured home.

Mr Max instantly needed to explore the bay water.

I have tons of pictures of this tree.
Next I need a fall picture of it and some when the snow flies.

View from under the rail road tracks.

Some pictures as we roamed around the pond that slowly trickles into the bay.

Don't jump!

Great place to collect sea shells

We returned that evening in an attempt to get some sunset pictures.
But the sun quickly disappeared behind the mountains.
I have posted bay pictures many times before.
But here are some more for your enjoyment!

   Again around the pond.....

I will post my favorite sunset pictures very soon.

Max on the lookout!!

                                                                         Rest time!

                                                                     Ninja!

                                                          Kool find on State Street

Three of the tallest and perhaps coolest buildings in town.

Last week my wife and I had the privilege to join our youngest's class on a field trip to Mt Baker Theatre.
In the off and on five years that I have lived here, I have never been inside the theatre.
We along with many of the local grade school's enjoyed the first school performance of the season.
It was great.   Sadly I did not take any pictures while in the building.
But it is an awesome building both inside and out.
And the performance was outstanding!

Lastly today I must brag that Halloween --tomorrow marks seven years of knowing my wife.

We will be focusing on the kiddos and "screening" there candy tomorrow.
We lock ourselves in our room and go through the candy and keep some of the best stuff.
Compisation for walking them all over town.

We did manage to sneak away last week on a night with no kids.

Were we enjoyed a great evening at the Silver Reef Casino.
The view from our room.

The huge new addition to the casino going in.
